Joomla 5.2.1 security release

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, Joomla 5.2.1 was released. This version includes an important security update for building a new site with Joomla 5.2.

Resolved security issue

The update fixes a file permissions error in new installations. In the creation of the Joomla 5.2.0 release, a mistake caused all files and folders to be set to "777 permission," while the recommended settings are 755 for folders and 644 for files. This could pose security issues on certain shared hosting environments. This issue does NOT affect updates to 5.2.0 on existing Joomla sites; during the update process, Joomla automatically sets permissions correctly.

For new Joomla sites created with the 5.2.0 release, an automatic fix for file permissions will be included in the next 5.2.x version. Site owners can wait for this update or manually adjust permissions. Websites we recently launched in Joomla 5.2 are unaffected by this issue.
