Joomla 5.4.10 released

13 October 2026

On Tuesday 13 October 2026, the Joomla! Project released Joomla 5.4.10. This is the final bugfix release for the Joomla 5.x series. Joomla 5.4 will continue to receive security updates for one more year, until October 2027. However, no more regular bugfix releases are planned.

Joomla 5.4.10 includes several bug fixes, dependency updates and small improvements. It is also a good starting point for websites that are planning to upgrade to Joomla 6.2.

What has been fixed in Joomla 5.4.10?

This release contains several fixes that improve the stability and reliability of Joomla.

Webservices API improvements

Two issues with the Joomla Webservices API have been fixed:

  • PATCH requests: Fixed an issue with PATCH requests in the Webservices API.
  • Timezone handling: Fixed a problem where dates could shift because of timezone handling in API requests.

These fixes are especially useful for developers who use Joomla as a headless CMS or connect Joomla with external applications.

Banner category access and publication

An issue with category access and publication settings in the Banners component has been fixed. This helps Joomla handle banner categories correctly, based on their access and publication settings.

Debug language parsing

A problem with language parsing in the Joomla debug system has been fixed. This is mainly useful for developers who use Joomla's debugging tools to find problems in their extensions or websites.

Username validation

Joomla 5.4.10 fixes an issue with the validation of certain characters in usernames. This improves how Joomla checks usernames when users are created or updated.

Administrator sidebar toggle

A small issue with the title of the sidebar toggle button in the administrator interface has been fixed. It is a minor improvement, but it makes the administrator interface a little more consistent.

Dependency updates and maintenance

Besides the bug fixes, Joomla 5.4.10 also includes some maintenance updates:

  • phpseclib: Updated to version 3.0.57.
  • NPM packages: Several JavaScript dependencies have been updated.
  • Translations: Two translation-related updates have been included.
  • Code maintenance: A small improvement to an English code comment.

These changes are mostly technical and will not be visible to website visitors. However, they help keep Joomla stable and maintainable.

Joomla 5 reaches the end of regular bugfix support

The most important news about Joomla 5.4.10 is that this is the last regular bugfix release for Joomla 5.x. Joomla 5.4 will continue to receive security updates until October 2027. This means that Joomla 5 websites can still receive security fixes during this period, but regular bug fixes and new features will no longer be added. If your website is still running on Joomla 5, there is no need to panic. But it is a good moment to start planning your upgrade to Joomla 6. Before upgrading, check whether your template, extensions and custom code are compatible with Joomla 6.

Upgrading to Joomla 5.4.10

If your website is already running on Joomla 5.x, we recommend updating to Joomla 5.4.10. Before updating, always make a complete backup of your website. If you have a website with many extensions or customisations, it is a good idea to test the update in a staging environment first. Important: If your website is still running on a Joomla version older than 4.4, do not upgrade directly to Joomla 5.x. First upgrade to Joomla 4.4 and then continue to Joomla 5.

Planning your upgrade to Joomla 6.2

Joomla 6.2 was released on the same day as Joomla 5.4.10. If your website is running on Joomla 5.4, you can upgrade to Joomla 6.2, provided that your hosting environment, template and extensions are compatible. The Behaviour - Backward Compatibility 6 plugin can help older extensions continue working on Joomla 6. However, this does not guarantee that every extension will work correctly. We recommend testing the upgrade first, especially when your website uses custom extensions, template overrides or other custom code. At db8 Website Support, we already build new websites directly on Joomla 6.x. For existing Joomla 5 websites, we recommend planning the upgrade in time, before security support ends in October 2027.

Joomla 5.4.10 maintenance release

Joomla 5.4.10 is a small but important maintenance release. It fixes several issues with the Webservices API, banner categories, username validation and the administrator interface. It also includes dependency updates and other technical improvements. More importantly, it marks the end of regular bugfix releases for Joomla 5. Joomla 5.4 will still receive security updates for another year, but now is a good time to prepare your website for Joomla 6.
