Joomla World Conference 2026

09 October 2026

From Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October 2026, I’ll be attending the Joomla World Conference 2026 in Potsdam, near Berlin in Germany. Three days packed with Joomla, web technology, inspiring presentations and, of course, lively conversations with other Joomla enthusiasts from all over the world.

I’m looking forward to catching up with old friends, making new contacts and exchanging ideas. And I’ll be giving a presentation myself!

A bit of Linux makes your life as a website builder easier

Did you know that most Joomla websites run on a Linux server? Yet many website builders work exclusively with tools such as cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin or FileZilla. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course. But behind those graphical interfaces lies a powerful Linux environment that often allows you to work much faster.

And that’s exactly what my presentation is about: Why Joomla website builders should know a bit of Linux. My aim is simple: to show that you don’t need to be a seasoned Linux system administrator to make good use of the terminal.

Fewer clicks, more done

During my presentation, I’ll guide participants through the basics of Linux. This includes the Linux kernel, the structure of the file system, file permissions and ownership. But above all, we’ll be getting stuck in with some hands-on practice! Using tools such as bash, rsync, grep, chmod and Docker, I’ll show you how to carry out your day-to-day tasks more quickly and easily.

For example:

  • Migrating websites: transferring files quickly and efficiently with rsync.
  • Troubleshooting: search through files and log files in a flash with grep.
  • Adjusting file permissions: set the correct permissions with chmod.
  • Automating tasks: simplify repetitive tasks with bash.
  • Developing locally: easily set up development environments with Docker.

What normally takes dozens of mouse clicks can sometimes be done with a single command. And that not only saves time, but also prevents errors.

Everything is a file

An important principle in Linux is Everything is a file. It may sound a bit strange, but once you understand how Linux handles files, processes and devices, a whole new world opens up. The Unix philosophy is also covered: small programmes, each of which performs a single task well and which you can combine cleverly. It is precisely this simplicity that makes the Linux terminal so powerful.

Shall I see you in Potsdam?

For me, the Joomla World Conference is always a great opportunity to share knowledge, find inspiration and meet people who are just as enthusiastic about Joomla and open source as I am. With my presentation, I hope above all to encourage website builders to open the terminal a bit more often. Because, as a Joomla professional, a little knowledge of Linux can save you a surprising amount of time.

Will you be attending the Joomla World Conference 2026 too? Feel free to come and say hello! I’d love to chat about Joomla, Linux, web development, or just have a chat over a cup of coffee or glass of beer. See you in Potsdam!
