On Friday 14 and Saturday 15 November 2025, the annual German Joomla Days will take place in Bad Krozingen (near Freiburg) in southern Germany. For two days, Joomla developers, implementers, and users will come together to share knowledge and inspire each other.

Discover the power of Joomla: Custom Fields and the Joomla Framework

During JoomlaDay DACH 2025, Peter Martin will give two presentations that demonstrate how to use Joomla even more effectively, including a deep dive into the Joomla Framework.

Custom Fields in Joomla Core

Since Joomla 3.7, Joomla CMS has included Custom Fields, allowing you to easily add extra information to articles, categories, users, or contacts. These fields appear in a separate tab during editing, making it possible to present content more flexibly and conveniently.

Joomla 6.x now includes 18 different field types by default, and you can extend these even further through third-party extensions and plugins.

In this session, Peter demonstrates the true power of Custom Fields, and why you need far fewer extensions nowadays when you use this feature smartly.

The Joomla Framework

Joomla is more than just a CMS. The Joomla Framework consists of separate PHP packages that allow you to build custom applications that can run independently of the Joomla CMS. These same packages also form the foundation of Joomla itself!

Peter shows how to use the Framework with Composer and Packagist, and how to easily develop small standalone applications with it.
